How to reduce corruption
By Mani Jack, M.J.
1. Choose the right captains
The effectiveness of a government agency depends heavily on the quality of the ministers and the directors. They must have integrity, knowledge and experiences before they get the ship moving. If they are selected based on political interest or personal interest instead of public interest, transparency will not be practiced. If transparency is missing, in other words, the tax-payers money will be missing too. On the other hand, the appointed ministers and directors must be the ones who know well about his portfolio. They must know the current issues which burden the government agency and they must also know the correct solutions to those problems. If a minister does not know much about his portfolio, he must consult the right ones and he himself must go to the ground to get to know more about any issues related to his ministry.
2. Take good care of the law enforcement agencies
The law enforcers have to be well taken care of by the government. Otherwise, organized crime will take care of them. How can the government take good care of these law enforcers? The first thing is they must be well educated about money management during the training session. They must be taught about the danger of poor spending habit, personal loans and loan sharks. When they know about all of these, it acts as a preventive measure to prevent them from accepting bribes from the organized crime. The second thing that the government could do is by giving these law enforcers a special loan scheme especially when they want to buy a house or a car so that they will not have to worry about financial burdens. The government could also give them a special investment scheme for the children of these law enforcers so that they could stay focus on keeping this country safe and peaceful. The third thing that the government could do is by establishing a fair policy in terms of promotions so that each law enforcer can work as brothers or sisters in combating crime. If the promotions scheme are not fair, some angry law enforcers may take drastic action by joining the organized crime in silence.
3. Create a specific and fair law
The ones who bribe the law enforcers should be punished heavily because they are the ones who want to be rich by using dirty tactics. The laws must be very firm on anyone who wish to bribe the law enforcers. At the same time, the government is actually sending the strong and firm message to anyone that they are serious about reducing corruption. On the other hand, this stern law will motivate the law enforcers to give their best in serving the country because they know that they are well protected by the government.
4. Educate the young minds about how corruption destroys a country.
The young minds must be well educated and informed about how corruption can destroy a country. This information can be incorporated in some subjects so that they are aware of the destructive power of corruption. Getting the young minds to watch videos and films about corruption can be very effective in educating the young minds about the importance of having the highest amount of integrity in serving the country. The young minds must know what will happen when the country’s revenue is blindly spent and what will happen when bribery becomes rampant throughout the country.
